A champion of new and alternative music, she can be heard regularly on the BBC, where she presented the 6 Music News live on air with Shaun Keaveny and Radcliffe & Maconie from 2016-2020. She has interviewed hundreds of musicians and arts and entertainment figures, among them Debbie Harry, Roger Daltrey, John Grant, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sinéad O’Connor, Shane MacGowan, Richard Thompson, Glen Matlock, Steve Reich, Johnny Marr, Jools Holland, Matt Johnson, and Suzi Quatro. She has also produced programmes, podcasts and music mixes for BBC Sounds, BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and The Proms, within the BBC and with award-winning production companies like Wise Buddah/Listen and Loftus Media. She recently worked on the feature film ‘Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan’ for BBC Four with Julien Temple and Johnny Depp.
Siobhán has also reported on the Barbican Centre’s contemporary music season programme. For 6 Music, she has broadcast from a range of red-carpet awards ceremonies, festivals and other music events, including the NME Awards, the Mercury Prize, the RTE Choice Music Prize, Other Voices Live, the London Jazz Festival, Electric Picnic (Ireland), Imagining Ireland (UK), Les Inrocks (France) and Desert Trip (USA). Most recently, Siobhán was asked to cover Iceland Airwaves for BBC 6 Music where she spoke on a panel of industry experts that included David Fricke (SiriusXM, Rolling Stone) and Kevin Cole (KEXP).
From 2016-2018 Siobhán curated, produced and hosted a stage at Electric Picnic, showcasing some of the best independent artists from across the UK and Ireland. She also previously worked as an Assistant Producer on a range of specialist programmes and shows for BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3, including Future Sounds with Annie Mac, Sounds of the 70s with Johnnie Walker, the Radio 2 Rock Show, Sound of Cinema, Essential Classics, Weekend Breakfast, Jazz on 3, Music Planet, and Opera on 3. In addition, she has produced outdoor broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 In Concert, working on location at venues and festivals like the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Northern College of Music, RNCM Brass Band Festival, WOMAD festival and Sage Gateshead.
Siobhán has many years’ experience working across the BBC as a Content Producer, for events such as BBC Music Day, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Radio 2 in Hyde Park, Proms in the Park, 6 Music Festival, The Biggest Weekend, 1Xtra Live and Asian Network Live. In 2018, she was Lead Digital Producer for Asian Network Live, helping to drive a 108% increase in online engagement. That year, Siobhán joined the brand-new BBC Sounds team, responsible for curating and producing exclusive Music Mixes for the newly launched BBC Sounds App. She produced bespoke playlists for output across the BBC’s networks, including Handpicked by 6 Music, Alt. 90s, Alt. 00s, Sounds of the 90s and Sounds of the 00s from Radio 2, the Mindful Mix and Classical Focus from Radio 3, as well as Beats & Bars from 1Xtra. Siobhán also produced several bespoke Music Mixes working with celebrity guest curators, such as the Beastie Boys, Pep Guardiola and Louis Theroux.
In 2017 and 2018, for BBC Music Day, Siobhán was instrumental in the creation and development of BBC Music Memories, an online platform helping dementia sufferers connect with their families and friends through music. As part of the annual, UK-wide celebration of the power of music to change lives, Siobhán has produced events and live performances at care homes and for community groups across the country, working with organisations and charities like Singing For The Brain, Alzheimers UK, Alzheimers Research UK, Alzheimers Scotland, The London Irish Centre, The Manchester Irish Centre, Nordoff Robbins, Leeds Irish Health & Homes, Jewish Care and the Music Mind Spirit Trust at the Royal Academy of Music. For BBC Music Day 2017, Siobhán organised and coordinated over 50 different record store gigs around Britain, involving over 50 bands and musicians, and worked with BBC Music Day Ambassadors and musicians like Nile Rogers, Kylie Minogue, Bez and Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays), Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), The Charlatans, Blossoms, The Courteeners and Jarvis Cocker. Following the Manchester Arena attack, she also secured the commissioning of the poem ‘The Power of Music’ by Tony Walsh for Music Day 2017.
Siobhán holds a BSc (Hons) in Music Technology, an MA in Broadcast Journalism, and an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. She began her career at BBC Radio Lancashire, working on the legendary freeform radio show On The Wire – the longest-running alternative music show on BBC Radio, and early champion of bands like The Smiths and Depeche Mode – before becoming a researcher on Inside Out, producing current affairs and investigative programmes and documentaries for BBC One and BBC North West Tonight.
